In one of our surveys on Instagram, we recently asked people what it means to be mindful?
The responses were very similar, check them out:
We're observing Mindful March because often, the road to sustainability begins with being more mindful. "Did I really just throw an entire packet of wilted salad out? Why do so many people across the world die of hunger? Let me donate these shoes that are in a decent condition but I just don't wear anymore" These are some thoughts that trigger being more mindful and aware.
Living a sustainable life starts with living a more mindful life.
Availability and access to everything have made us addicts of disposables. We don’t think about what happens to things when they leave our homes. Plastic, food, paper, foil, electronics, clothes etc are all items we throw away at some point during our life. Some on a daily basis, some once a while. But do we stop to think about what’s actually happening to them?
Ask these questions.
The next time you put an Amazon box in the trash, ask yourself what’s going to happen to it.
If you don’t know the answer, try looking it up. If you already know, ask yourself if you’re okay with that answer. Does the answer shock you? Does it make you feel uneasy?
Questions often lead to digging deeper and changing a way of life. Looking at pictures of landfill made me cringe at the plastic packaging I was throwing out every week. Questions lead to solutions, which lead to hunting for packaging-less groceries. Now, I'm at peace knowing my actions have a positive consequence, that my mindfulness makes a difference.
